Re: Spark table tuning

At least what I've started with is half decent, and it' drivable.

I'll have to con someone in to driving for me while I try to tune on the laptop.

Thanks!

Damo.

Spark table tuning

Has anyone done much with ignition tables? I have a table in there but it seems to be giving me some grief. It's hard to describe but the engine shudders in certain areas of the map, opwer drops off when that happens. In other areas of the map where the shuddering clears it seems much more crisp.

Re: I'm a bit rusty

ASE was my problem. I did play with some values but I was still not giving it enough. It seems to be starting pretty well now without too much tweaking which is lucky. Fine tuning cranking PW, ASE and warmups will take a bit longer as I remember. It looks like the wideband is behaving now too, so ho...

That sounds more reasonable!

Re: I'm a bit rusty

You will probably have to adjust both. But if the engine is dying just after firing-up, adjusting the afterstart enrichment will fix that. For other readers new to MegaSquirt; The afterstart enrichment will add extra fuel then taper out for 30secs to a couple of minutes after start. There should be...

I'm a bit rusty

Gday guys, i'm stuck setting up my MS on another engine. I'm pretty sure i'm OK with the req fuel and ignition setup, but having some problems getting an idle. I'm at the point now where I can start it, but it won't maintain an idle, generally it just dies straight after it starts. I seem to remembe...

Re: Spark settings, distributor mode

What engine are you implementing it on? Using a distributor gives you better control over ignition timing, but the spark still travels via the carbon rod, rotor, then jumping to a pole in the cap, so the spark strength is not improved. Timing is also still subject to timing chain lash and distribut...

Re: Spark settings, distributor mode

I've just been rechecking things and i'm still scratching my head. First of all I checked the dizzy phasing, and at 25 degrees BTDC the rotor it pointing at the plug tower for No. 1 cylinder. Next I wound back the engine until the trigger tooth was outside the pickup, then moved it forward until the...

Spark settings, distributor mode

I've never set up ignition control before. It all looks pretty straight forward in the manual until I start putting it to use in the garage! http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms1extra/MS_Extra_Ignition_Hardware_Manual.htm#MSnS so I read through this but I can't figure out how to get the trigger angle figur...
