Aussie Coil packs

Post by rallyrs »

Hi, i'm building an esky, 2l pinto, gsx600 tb, 36-1 with falcon vr, v6 commodore air and watr temp. need ideas on which coil packs to use either twin wasted- spark or quad setup. I was thinking vp commodore wasted spark but i havent got down to the wreckers yet to see if i can run 2 only without the back plane..
what are the other aussie 4cylinder setups and which ones to avoid

thanks

why did you decide on a wasted spark over a 4 coil setup?

Four cylinder Ford Mondeo have good coilpacks - more reliable than Hyundai coils. Otherwise you could use four 'plain' ignition coils eg. Bosch HEC716.
1984 Ford Falcon 250ci inline 6 MS'd of course!

Now improved the way Ford should have built it with a 4speed automatic.

Also with 3.45 LSD for added goodness.

If you are hitting your head up against a wall it always feels better when you stop.

thanks. just ebay'd v6 commodore wasted spark setups. read some sr20 guys using same. nice and cheap. run a large plug gap which should be good for a bit more spark.

Did a quick google and found this;
>1. Earth
>2. +12V
>3. EST (Electronic Spark Timing, ie the important one !!)
>4. Bypass

>Bypass mode is used at low cranking speeds where signal from the CAS
>(Crank Angle Sensor) may be eratic. This may or may not be important
>depending on your application.

>EST is the signal from the computer for
>the coils to be fired and varies with rpm, load, etc.,etc.
Have a look on http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/V6_Ignition as well.

Or you can remove the coils from the coil pack and fire them individually.

Thanks Long283, I was going to use 4 of them to run a v8 so I needed to to know which is switching and 12v+ on the bottom of the coils. With the info you provided I should be able to work it out with an old module and a multimeter.

cheers.
