Timing on a 3.3 Holden blacky

Hi trend setters.
Been having a ball tuning the 3.3 I've put into my FB. The VEAL function has worked well so far, only short trips due to only having a temporary permit from VicRoads. Car is running quite well, and my AFR gauge is a great companion which tells me I'm on the right track. It's the ignition curve id like to be sure of. I got a friend to send me an image of an original graph for the 202 red motor as a guide. My motor is stock with a stock cam. I've used the table sent me, minus a couple of degrees. The extractors are throwing off a fair bit if heat at the moment, and that's with a fairly rich AFR tune setup. Any one have a method for finding a good advance curve on these motors?
Or should I just run 98 octane and use the original map.
