anyone using or considered a non-genuine dash.

what are the options:
electrical or mechanical gauges
diyautotune LCD display
PALM mobile
laptop
laptop with a remote touchscreen lcd
tablet/notebook PC

I've been contemplating above for a while, my prefered option is a notebook or laptop with lcd running tuner studio.
What are other using?

Im using the LCDash from DIY autotune in my hot rod. It's not finished yet though. I have written my own firmware to add an odometer to make it legal. I will also be adding a fuel gauge and changing the screen layouts.

A mini pc/laptop and lcd screen is another option.

I went off the lcd dash because I thought the layouts were fixed. I had another look tonight, how do you modifying the layouts.

The layouts are fixed. I had to modify the firmware to add the new layouts.

Here is a picture of the layout I added. It is a work in progress. I added 2 new gauge types as well, the vertical bar graphs and the larger digits for the speedo. I haven't touched it for at least a year and a half except for mounting it in the dash.

If you want to experiment with your own dash you could get an Arduino and connect it to a 16x2 or 20x4 LCD display like this one http://www.littlebirdelectronics.com/pr ... ce%29.html

The Arduino has several analog inputs and several digital in/outs that you could measure signals from an electrical sender like your fuel tank, oil press., temp or voltage and display a value or bar. You could use a reed switch and magnet to display speed or as an odometer and add a couple of buttons to cycle through the menu.
