Thanks Wagon, but I think the local plods are already a bit too involved for me to make things worse. On the up side, however the 186 runs as sweet as a nut! And yesterday I finally managed to register the old girl. 6 years of lost week-ends in the shed and about 20 grand and finally I've got a "new" FB Holden to drive around in. Now for lots of long trips running VEAL. And fine tuning the ignition curve.

Anyone in Melbourne metro who'd like to catch up and compare notes please get in touch. So far my set up is the only one I've seen.

Good to see old cars running 'new tech'. I'd like to do an efi job on an old Fergy tractor or something.... just because I can.

Nice job with the engine bay Bluehaze.
I had trouble with a 202 once that had finance registered against it (even though my dad owned it for several years), lucky for me I only had to wait a couple of weeks for that to clear.

Well my old HQ ute was loaded to the hilt and driven from east to west-coast.
No problems other than cooking the brakes coming down the blue mountains and had a blocked fuel-filter near Hay. I think the blocked fuel filter was caused by some ethanol in the fuel at Bathurst cleaning out my fuel-tank and depositing the dirt in the filters. At least it wasn't too hard to fix and was better off happening there instead of on the Nullarbor.
Was reasonably economical (for a 6.2L and no overdrive).

A tonner? Just about never see those in regular use now ; it's nice to see older cars in regular use still.

Well then, while we're showing off our old Holdens, I suppose I'd better put in. Just an update. Finally got rego! The bloke at VicRoads was a bit of a Holden nut, and when he came out to the inspection bay, he got so caught up in talking about the setup that he forgot to check the numbers! Nice fella, he gave me a shiny new set of plates. I couldn't have been happier. So far, I've done about 500 k's, half the time running VEAL or taking logs and agonising over the WB feedback or listening closely for the signs of an over advnced timing curve. The stolen 3.3 is sitting on the garage floor awaiting a response from the police- I'm in no hurry. So far the old girl has run as sweet as a nut! And I love passing kids in their lowered VN's (it was Toranas when I was a kid) in my very agile MS'ed 186 powered antique.

Here's a more recent pic of the engine bay in the HQ.

Ran out of time to fit the Stealth Ram manifold and coil packs before the trip.

Looks old-skool but doesn't drive like it. Thumbs up!
